What Partners Are Saying

“Not participating and contributing to the Yukon Mine Training Association was never an option for our companies and for me personally...YMTA provided one of the few real opportunities for addressing the critical shortage of skilled labour in the Yukon and providing a bridge for engaging First Nations andothers in the mining industry. If our industry is to grow in the Yukon, we will need the support of the communities and that means social and economic benefits: simply safe and satisfying jobs and opportunities to grow. YMTA as a partnership between industry, First Nations and governments is well-positioned to provide leadership in this important initiative.”

What We Do

Who are we?

Yukon Mine Training Association is a partnership between the Yukon‘s mining and related resource industry and First Nations for the purpose of building labour market capacity in the Yukon by providing safety and skills training opportunities.

How do we accomplish this?

By finding and managing funds that are placed in trust for access by businesses, communities and First Nations for skill and capacity development and training to prepare people to work in the resource industry sector.

What are our areas of responsibility?

1. Identifying and establishing appropriate training programs and community support that meet the needs of industry and ensures Yukoners, especially First Nations people, are ready for jobs as they become available.

2. Encourage youth, women and First Nations people to see the value and opportunities attached to working in the resource industry and associated support areas.

3. Attracting and retaining workers to the Yukon who are already employable or are interested in training.

4. Coordinating, with education, training and community partners, the delivery and development of effective training programs.

5. Establishing and promoting, along with labour and industry partners, occupational and safety standards.
