Careers and the Mine Cycle

The various phases of the mine cycle create employment opportunities for a wide range of different careers at different times. A geologist, accountant, or expediter, for example, may be active throughout the life of a mine, while prospectors, plumbers and drafting technologists are involved for specific periods. Knowing what types of careers fit into which phase can help with career choices and career planning. 

If you enjoy being in the bush, then mine exploration might be for you. Explore Yukon’s backcountry as a geologist, field assistant, line cutter, drill operator, pilot or camp cook. 

Ever think about driving heavy equipment? Well it’s now possible to run anything from a forklift to a rock truck in an operating mine. 

With the closure of Faro and other mines sites in the Yukon, there are site rehabilitation jobs like environmental technicians, landscapers, and tree planters. 

If you’re into high-tech there is equal demand for the generation of software, database programs, and equipment diagnostics.
