Yukon Mining Careers Handbook
Yukon Mining Careers Handbook (557Kb PDF)The Yukon Mining Careers Handbook is designed to help Yukon communities, industries and individuals in preparing for mining development through an understanding of what careers are available at what points in the mine cycle and how to train for them. The handbook provides a listing of some of the key career opportunities in the Yukon mining industry and includes what education and training is required for each, what to expect in terms of a salary range, and where to find more information.
The Yukon Mining Careers Handbook is produced by the Yukon Mine Training Association (YMTA). YMTA is a partnership between the Yukon mining industry and Yukon First Nations and strives to make the most of employment opportunities created by the growth of mining and resource development in the North.
The various phases of the mine cycle create employment opportunities for a wide range of different careers at different times. A geologist or expediter, for example, may be active throughout the life of a mine, while prospectors and construction contractors are involved for specific periods of time.
Knowing when each career is active can help with career choices and career planning. The Mine Cycle identifies careers in the Yukon mining industry. As noted previously, each mine is unique, so the chart offers general guidance.
