Safety
YMTA supports the Yukon Workers' Compensation Board (YWCB) in the implementation of their Yukon Prevention Strategy. Strategy aims include:
- safe and healthy workplaces;
- injured workers returning to work safely;
- workers and employers sharing responsibility for safety, wellness and managing the impact of workplace injuries and illness;
- strong and effective relationships and partnerships; and
- employers, workers and the Board each accountable for safety.
YMTA is implementing the Yukon Mine Safety Initiative. Its work is:
- to develop/purchase and modify standardized safety training modules to deliver industry-wide; and
- to communicate messages on the importance of safety training, prevention of incidents, injuries and illness.
In 2010, YMTA is funding the following safety training:
-
Klondike Placer Miners’ Association (KPMA) Placer Mining Safety Program
- First Line Supervisor Training YMTA has, in consultation with Industry and YWCB, developed a generic certification program for first line supervisors in the mining and resource-related industries. Supervisor training is essential to the management of a safe work place.
